Frequently asked questions

How does SecureVoult work?

You paste a secret, choose a view limit and expiry, and get a link. When the link has been opened the allowed number of times, or it expires, the secret is deleted.

How is my secret encrypted?

Secrets are sent over HTTPS and encrypted with AES-256 on our servers before they are stored. They are decrypted only when the link is opened, and permanently deleted once the view limit or expiry is reached.

Can SecureVoult read my secrets?

Secrets are encrypted at rest, but the encryption is applied on our servers, so the service can technically decrypt a secret when its link is opened. We do not log or analyse secret contents, and secrets are deleted after viewing or expiry.

Do I need an account?

No. Anyone can create a one-time link. An account is needed for history, secret requests, chats and higher limits.

Can I protect a secret with a passphrase?

Yes. The passphrase is stored only as a one-way hash and checked before the secret is shown. Send it over a different channel from the link.

What happens when a secret expires?

It is permanently deleted and the link no longer works.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. See the pricing page for current plans and limits.
